Join the move to living more sustainably by extending the useful life of your clothing. This course aims to provide you with a wide range of skills, tips and techniques which will enable you to repair, alter, upcycle, and embellish items of clothing without having to use a sewing machine (although we will have them on hand in case you need them!).

Each week you will extend your knowledge and skill set by learning new techniques, and there will also be time to work on the items you bring along to rescue - whether they are from the back of your wardrobe, the mending pile, or your latest op shop find.

  • Basic hand stitches
  • Helpful products and how to use them
  • Fabric types and how to care for them
  • Hemming techniques
  • Simple size adjustments
  • How to make repairs
  • Adding embellishments

After the learning part of the session is completed, you are welcome to stay on and work on your individual projects until the studio closes (12.00pm).

Course content is flexible and while covering basic skills will vary according to the articles participants bring along to work on, and the interests they want to pursue.
